Incredible Miracles That Science Cannot Explain
It is Modernism that excludes apparitions
Dearest Father Livio,
I know that you have other things to think about these days, but allow me to make my own comment on the ideas that are being spread about Medjugorje as a place of grace but without apparitions.
It seems to me an untenable position. Where in fact would the messages come from, which are declared by the Church to be in conformity with the Catholic faith? And what should we say about the visionaries who receive them?
Are they perhaps impostors or people possessed by I don’t know what spirits or abnormal or what else? Yet the Church itself describes them as simple and normal people.
What do you say about this confusion that leaves many pilgrims perplexed?
Anonymous.
Dearest,
The first thing to know is that the Church leaves the faithful absolutely free to believe or not to believe in private apparitions. I have known some ecclesiastics worthy of respect who did not believe in any apparition, not even those of Lourdes and Fatima.
As for the apparitions of Medjugorje, the Nulla Osta recognizes the fruits and the conformity of the messages to the faith. The Church has not yet pronounced itself on the supernatural nature of the apparitions but does not prohibit belief in them.
Indeed, eminent men of the Church, Popes, Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, countless priests, religious men and women and a multitude of faithful from every part of the world believe in the apparitions of Medjugorje and it is for this reason that they have changed their lives, listening to the messages of Our Lady, and that they go on pilgrimage.
If one does not believe it is a personal matter and the Church cannot be called into question to exclude the apparitions, as if they were not a reality of two thousand years of Christian history.
The Catholic Church has always admitted the apparitions, has examined and approved them and has condemned the “modernist plague” (St. Pius X) which excludes them.
With due respect for personal sensitivities, the official position of the Church should be followed, which, especially regarding Medjugorje, leaves the faithful free to believe that it is the Madonna who appears and gives the messages. And who else, please?
In any case, we await the revelation of the Secrets, starting with the first one. We will not be bored.
Hail Mary
Father Livio
